About Chris Mang:
Known for his big personality, Chris was driven by a joy for the many people in his life and a passion for helping others—he was a friend to everyone he met. He competed in Special Olympics, participated in Skagit Valley People First, and volunteered with organizations like Habitat for Humanity. He loved music and movie trivia and enjoyed karaoke with friends. As Chris often said himself, he was a “Renaissance Man,” full of life, complexity, and a great sense of humor. Chris passed away on May 14, 2018 in Mount Vernon, WA.
About the Chris Mang Memorial Fund:
The Mang/Glesne family, in partnership with the Skagit Valley Family YMCA, established the Chris Mang Memorial Fund to ensure that Chris’s memory lives on. As a tribute to his desire to help others, this fund provides financial assistance to programs designed to enrich the lives of underserved youth and families and those with special needs in Skagit Valley. Donations are accepted year-round, and all donations are valued and appreciated!
To date, the fund has supported the following:
- Skagit County Special Olympics (supporting costs associated facility rental fees, sports gear, social events, and celebrations),
- The Oasis Teen Shelter (providing holiday meals and funding the creation of a “cozy corner” for teens at the shelter to utilize),
- The Sedro-Woolley Rec Center (providing youth with access to the best clothes for their job interview or other needed clothing),
- Collecting warm weather clothing for local youth,
- Scholarships and financial assistance to enable children and families to participate in YMCA wellness programs
